Résumé : Objectives: In cystic fibrosis, mutations of the CFTR gene lead to diffuse bronchiectasis (DB). DB is also associated with other diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in which the role of genetic factors in the predisposition to DB remains unclear. Methods: A family-based association study was carried out to determine whether the frequency of CFTR mutations was higher in patients with RA-associated DB and to determine whether a causal relationship could be established between the variant and the disease by evaluating its cosegregation with DB within families. Families of probands with RA-DB were included if one first-degree relative had RA and/or DB. The controls comprised healthy subjects requesting genetic counselling because their partner had cystic fibrosis. Results: The frequency of CFTR mutations was higher in family members with RA-DB or DB only than in unaffected relatives (p<0.005 for each comparison) and in unrelated healthy controls (p<0.001 for each comparison) but not in family members with RA only. CFTR mutations were more frequent in family members with RA-DB than in those with RA only (OR 5.30, 95% CI 2.48 to 11.33; p<5×10-5). They cosegregated with RA-DB in the families (sib-TDT=10.82, p=0.005). Conclusions: RA-DB should be added to the list of phenotypes in which CFTR mutations are pathogenic. CFTR mutation is the first genetic defect linked to an extra-articular feature of RA to be described. CFTR mutations in patients with RA appear to be an important marker of the risk of associated DB, which has been linked to a less favourable prognosis.

Résumé : Partial resistances, often controlled by quantitative trait loci (QTL), are considered to be more durable than monogenic resistances. Therefore, a precursor to developing efficient breeding programs for polygenic resistance to pathogens should be a greater understanding of genetic diversity and stability of resistance QTL in plants. In this study, we deciphered the diversity and stability of resistance QTL to Aphanomyces euteiches in pea towards pathogen variability, environments and scoring criteria, from two new sources of partial resistance (PI 180693 and 552), effective in French and USA infested fields. Two mapping populations of 178 recombinant inbred lines each, derived from crosses between 552 or PI 180693 (partially resistant) and Baccara (susceptible), were used to identify QTL for Aphanomyces root rot resistance in controlled and in multiple French and USA field conditions using several resistance criteria. We identified a total of 135 additive-effect QTL corresponding to 23 genomic regions and 13 significant epistatic interactions associated with partial resistance to A. euteiches in pea. Among the 23 additive-effect genomic regions identified, five were consistently detected, and showed highly stable effects towards A. euteiches strains, environments, resistance criteria, condition tests and RIL populations studied. These results confirm the complexity of inheritance of partial resistance to A. euteiches in pea and provide good bases for the choice of consistent QTL to use in marker-assisted selection schemes to increase current levels of resistance to A. euteiches in pea breeding programs

Résumé : The anaerobic digestion of solid waste is usually performed using dry or semi-dry technology. Incoming waste and fermenting digestate are pasty media and thus, at the industrial scale, their suitability for pumping and mixing is a prerequisite at the industrial scale. However, their rheology has been poorly characterised in the literature because there is no suitable experimental system for analysing heterogeneous media composed of coarse particles. We have developed a practical rheometrical test, a “slump test”, for the analysis of actual digested solid waste. It makes it possible to estimate yield stress from the final slump height. From the slump behavior, we conclude that digestates behave as visco-elastic materials. The yield stress of different digested waste was measured between 200 and 800 Pa. We show that the media containing smaller particles or with higher moisture content are characterised by smaller yield stresses. This study thus demonstrates the impact of the origin of the digestate on the yield stress.

Résumé : In order to date low-temperature deformation, intensely trained muscovite porphyroclasts and neocrystallized shear band phengite from greenschist-facies shear zones have been dated by 40Ar/39Ar method in the Argentera-Mercantour massif. Shear zones are featured by gradual mylonitization of a Variscan granite, gneiss and Permian pelite protolith (300-315Ma) during the Alpine orogenic event. Mineralogical and textural observations indicate that phengites and chlorites developed from biotite and plagioclase in fluid system during deformation following dissolution-transport-precipitation reactions of the type biotite + plagioclase + aqueous fluid = chlorite + albite + phengite + quartz + titanite + K-bearing fluid in the granite-gneiss mylonite. Contrariwise, phengite developed at the expense of clays following substitution reaction in pelite mylonite. Based on conventional thermobarometry on phengite and chlorite and Pressure-Temperature-aqueous fluid (P-T-MH2O) pseudosections calculated with shear zone bulk compositions, the conditions during shear deformation were estimated at 375±30 °C and 4.8-7±1 kbar in an H2O-satured system. In this low temperature environment, 40Ar/39Ar analysis of the Variscan muscovite for various grades of ductile strain intensity shows a limited 40Ar/39Ar isotopic resetting, all ages scattering between 296 and 315 Ma. Under conditions of intense ductile deformation and large scale fluid circulation, muscovite grains formed during the Variscan retain their much older ages. 40Ar/39Ar dating of very fine grained synkinematic phengite grains, neoformed during the Alpine history, give consistent plateau ages (34-20 Ma) for each shear zone. In detail, 40Ar excess can be detected in the pelite mylonitic sample where phengites crystallized by substitution process while the other mylonitic samples where phengites grow from fluid-induced reactions do not evidence any 40Ar excess. These results demonstrate that the 40Ar/39Ar dating of neocrystallized synkinematic white mica allows the determination of precise ages of deformation and fluid activity. Together with precise thermobarometry undertaken on the basis of mineral chemistry and whole-rock composition, 40Ar/39Ar dating of white mica leads to the reconstitution of precise depth-deformation history of low-grade (b400 °C) metamorphic units. At the Argentera-Mercantour massif scale, several stages of shear zone development at 15-21 km depth are dated between 33 and 20Ma. In the SE part of the massif shear zone ages are well constrained to be either (1) 33.6±0.6 Maor in the range (2) 26.8±0.7Ma-26.3±0.7 Ma. In the West of the massif, younger shear zone ages range between (3) 22.2±0.3 Ma and (4) 20.5±0.3 Ma.

Résumé : The increase in electronic entertainment equipments within vehicles has rendered the idea of replacing the wired links with intra-vehicle personal area networks. Ultra-wideband (UWB) seems an appropriate candidate technology to meet the required data rates for interconnecting such devices. In particular, the multiband OFDM (MB-OFDM) is able to provide very high transfer rates (up to 480 MBps) over relatively short distances and low transmit power. In order to evaluate the performances of UWB systems within vehicles, a reliable channel model is needed. In this paper, a nomadic system where a base station placed in the center of the dashboard wants to communicate with fixed devices placed at the rear seat is investigated. A single-input single-output (SISO) channel model for intra-vehicular communication (IVC) systems is proposed, based on reverberation chamber theory. The model is based on measurements conducted in real traffic conditions, with a varying number of passengers in the car. Temporal variations of the wireless channels are also characterized and parametrized. The proposed model is validated by comparing model-independent statistics with the measurements.

Résumé : This paper presents the work done during the first year of the EPIS project. This project deals with the process of conductingmultiple and parallelmulti agents-based simulations (MABS) on a cluster or a grid in order to generate sufficient data for scientific use (e.g. in the case of a sensibility analysis of a simulation). We provide a new, general and user-friendly approach to marry MABS and High- Performance Computing (HPC). We, thus, propose a workflow and an associated HPC infrastructure. These two permit to easily deploy a lot of simulations on a cluster without any prior parallelizing work. The method wants to be as generic as possible: no particular MABS targeted, no overhead and HPC compliance work has to be done only once. Moreover the user is guided by a web interface that handles the workflow.

Résumé : Hypomanic symptoms depending on anatomical location of contacts are reported in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients treated by deep-brain-stimulation (DBS) of subthalamic nucleus (STN) area. However, the underlying cortical and subcortical dysfunction remains debated. In this study, we investigated five PD patients implanted with DBS-STN who presented reversible and reproducible hypomanic symptoms after stimulation of specific "manic" contacts. Hypomanic symptoms were assessed using the Bech and Rafaelsen Mania Scale (MAS). A 3-D anatomical location of "euthymic" and "manic" contacts, after matching post operative CT scan with pre-operative stereotactic MRI, and a H215O PET study in conditions testing "euthymic" and "manic" contacts, were performed. In the "euthymic" condition, MAS score (mean ± SD) was 0.6 ± 0.5 compared to 7.8 ± 3.1 in the "manic" condition. Nine of ten "manic" contacts were located in the substantia nigra mainly in its ventral part. PET showed that hypomania was associated with a strong asymmetrical cerebral activation involving preferentially the right hemisphere, and was mediated by an activation of the anterior cingulate and medial prefrontal cortex. The present study demonstrates the role of subcortical structures in the genesis of hypomania in PD patients treated with DBS and stresses the implication of substantia nigra.
