Résumé : We describe the administration of antenatal corticosteroid therapy (ACT) for liveborn very preterm neonates in a population-based study. A total of 790 very preterm neonates (between 24 and 31 full weeks of gestation) were included in this regionally defined population of very preterm neonates in France. The main outcome measure was non-access to ACT. Data were analysed using logistic and polytomous models to control for neonatal and sociodemographic characteristics, mechanisms of very preterm birth and neonatal network organisation. As compared with level III, births in levels I-II maternity units were closely related to non-access to ACT (60.1% vs. 8.8%), but not to pregnancy follow-up (19.7% vs. 17.8%). Only 6.3% of very preterm neonates that benefited from antepartum referral did nor receive ACT. Births associated with rupture of membranes and gestational hypertension were significantly more often transferred to level-III units (73.8% and 68.3% respectively) than those due to maternal bleeding and spontaneous labour (57.0% and 50.7% respectively), and the neonates had a lower probability of not receiving ACT (8.5%, 11.5%, 23.0%, 31.2% respectively). Very preterm neonates referred in utero to a level-III unit came from a more favourable socio-economic environment. Non-access to ACT was more often observed in neonates born to 14- to 24-year-old mothers, smokers, of low socio-economic status, and preterm birth resulting from maternal bleeding or spontaneous labour. These data from a French regional study show that access to ACT is not only explained by practitioners' support of recommendations. In our population-based study, ACT access was related to socio-economic factors and to the mechanisms of very preterm birth. Improving the rate of access to ACT should take these organisational, medical and socio-economic dimensions into account.

Résumé : In this paper, we proceed along our analysis of the Korteweg-de Vries approximation of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation initiated in a previous paper. At the long-wave limit, we establish that solutions of small amplitude to the one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation split into two waves with opposite constant speeds $\pm \sqrt{2}$, each of which are solutions to a Korteweg-de Vries equation. We also compute an estimate of the error term which is somewhat optimal as long as travelling waves are considered. At the cost of higher regularity of the initial data, this improves our previous estimate.

Résumé : The second human beta-galactoside alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase (hST6Gal II) differs from hST6Gal I, the first member of ST6Gal family, in substrate specificity and tissue expression pattern. While ST6GAL1 gene is expressed in almost all human tissues, ST6GAL2 shows a restricted tissue-specific pattern of expression, mostly expressed in embryonic and adult brain. In order to understand the mechanisms involved in the transcriptional regulation of ST6GAL2, we first characterized the transcription start sites (TSS) in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. 5' RACE experiments revealed multiple TSS located on three first alternative 5' exons, termed EX, EY and EZ, which are unusually close on the genomic sequence and are all located more than 42 kbp upstream of the first common coding exon. Using Taqman duplex Q-PCR, we showed that the ST6GAL2 transcripts initiated by EX or EY are mainly expressed in both brain-related cell lines and human cerebral cortex, testifying for the use of a similar transcriptional regulation in vivo. Furthermore, we also showed for the first time hST6Gal II protein expression in the different lobes of the human cortex. Luciferase reporter assays allowed us to define two sequences upstream EX and EY with a high and moderate promoter activity, respectively. Bioinformatics analysis and site-directed mutagenesis showed that NF-kappaB and NRSF are likely to act as transcriptional repressors, whereas neuronal-related development factors Sox5, Puralpha and Olf1, are likely to act as transcriptional activators of ST6GAL2. This suggests that ST6GAL2 transcription could be potentially activated for specific neuronal functions.

Résumé : À travers les agendas de Pierre Lebugle, cultivateur en Pays d'Auge" Sur plus de trente ans (1941-1971), les agendas de Pierre Lebugle, cultivateur au « Village Caillou » en Pays d'Auge, éclairent de l'intérieur un monde rural qui ne cesse de changer. Depuis la haie de sa maison et celles de ses herbages, nous le voyons circuler d'un horizon à l'autre selon ses préoccupations. Nous pouvons reconstituer son univers. La longue période de l'Après-guerre a profondément modifié la vie quotidienne dans les campagnes : de cette révolution agricole « silencieuse », qui a touché nos parents ou grands-parents, voici l'un des représentants les plus modestes, presque un « spectateur » quand on considère la singularité de son parcours. Mais à ce titre il est emblématique de cette majorité silencieuse d'exploitants qui, peu ou prou, se sont maintenus avant de mettre la clé sous la porte. La collection d'agendas qui sert de support à cet essai – et dont une dizaine sont édités ici, du Journal du STO en Allemagne aux débuts de la Ve République – offre une source encore en friche. Or, au-delà des statistiques et des généralités, elle restitue la richesse de l'histoire vécue dans le monde rural bouleversé par la Révolution agricole. Le passage du paysan à l'agriculteur a été le défi des Trente Glorieuses : l'homme du Village Caillou n'a pas cherché à le relever. Mais il a contribué à tisser au jour le jour des liens sociaux qui l'ont facilité.

Résumé : The MEGAPOLI (Megacities: Emissions, urban, regional and Global Atmospheric POLlution and climat effects, and Integrated tools for assessment and mitigation) summer campaign took place in July 2009 around Paris megacity. The main objectives of the MEGAPOLI campaign are: i) to assess impacts of megacities and large air-pollution hot-spots on local, regional and global air quality and climate, ii) to quantify feedbacks between megacity emissions, air quality, local and regional climate, and global climate change, iii) to develop and implement improved, integrated tools to assess the impacts of air pollution from megacities on regional and global air quality and climate and to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation option. During this experiment a mobile lidar system has been deployed onboard a van in order to follow the evolution of anthropogenic aerosols optical properties during their transport. This system operated during the intensive observation periods of the experiment. It was composed of two detection channels to measure the backscatter signal in the two cross-polarizations. These measurements have highlighted contrasted behaviors of aerosols in the planetary boundary layer during their transport from Paris to its suburbs (~60-100 km). The main pollution events have been observed in the beginning of July (on the 1st and 2nd of July) with a mean aerosol optical thickness close to 0.4 at 550 nm. We will present the main observations carried out by the mobile lidar system as well as their interpretations by taking into account the dynamics of the air masses.

Résumé : The GOMOS ozone profiles have been analysed to evaluate the GOMOS ability to capture the long-term ozone evolution at mid-latitudes during the expected recovery phase of the ozone layer. Version 5 of the operational GOMOS ozone data has been compared with data from two of the longest ground-based instruments based on different techniques and already involved with many other previous space instrument validations. Comparisons between ground-based and GOMOS data confirm the occurrence of spurious retrievals mainly occurring since 2006. Using a selected set of data it is shown that some bad retrievals are induced by the increasing dark charge of the detectors combined with an inadequate method for its correction. This effect does not only induce a continuous bias, but is rather exhibiting a bimodal distribution including the correct profiles and the bad retrievals. For long-term analyses it is recommended filtering the data according to background light conditions and star temperature (spectrum shape). The new method of the dark charge estimate proposed to be implemented in the version 6 of the ESA algorithm seems to significantly reduce the occurrence of such effects and should allow to monitor stratospheric ozone using GOMOS data with greater confidence.

Résumé : We studied the kinetics of adsorption of alexa-labeled Bt toxin CrylAa, in monomer and oligomer states, on muscovite mica, acid-treated hydrophilic glass, and hydrophobized glass, in the configuration of laminar flow of solution in a slit. Normal confocal fluorescence through the liquid volume allows the visualization of the concentration in solution over the time of adsorption, in addition to the signal due to the adsorbed molecules at the interface. The solution signal is used as calibration for estimation of interfacial concentration. We found low adsorption of the monomer compared to oligomers on the three types of surface. The kinetic adsorption barrier for oligomers increases in the order hydrophobized glass, muscovite mica, acid-treated hydrophilic glass. This suggests enhanced immobilization in soil if toxin is under oligomer state.
