Résumé : Tailoring the properties of carbon nanotubes by chemical functionalization is one of the key challenges towards the realization of carbon nanotube-based opto-electronic devices. This technique aims at combining the great transport properties of nanotubes with the versatility of the optical properties of organic molecules. We present new results about "π-stacking" functionalization of single wall carbon nanotubes with porphyrin molecules. The optical properties of these complexes are investigated by means of photoluminescence excitation and ultrafast pump/probe experiments. The nanotubes/porphyrin complexes show a total quenching of the porphyrin fluorescence, while the luminescence of the nanotubes is preserved and even enhanced when the excitation is tuned in resonance with the Soret band of the porphyrins. This brings evidence of an efficient excitation energy transfer within the nanotube/porphyrin complex, which corresponds to the implementation of a key functionality: an organic graft acting as an antenna and the nanotube acting as a collector. The dynamics of this transfer turn out to be extremely fast, in qualitative agreement with the high transfer ratio observed in permanent regime.

Résumé : The "Satellite validation with lidar" (VALID) project supports the long-term multi-mission validation of atmospheric chemistry and physics instruments with ground-based lidars. VALID involves lidar stations around the world measuring stratospheric ozone and temperature profiles, and tropospheric aerosol and cloud properties. Currently over 8000 lidar profiles have been made available for validation purposes in VALID and its predecessor EQUAL (ENVISAT quality assessment with lidar). The satellite data under investigation here are the ozone and temperature profiles delivered by the GOMOS (Global ozone monitoring by occultation of stars), MIPAS (Michelson interferometer for passive atmospheric sounding) and SCIAMACHY (Scanning imaging absorption spectrometer for atmospheric chartography) instruments. We have collocated these profiles with the lidar measurements and analysed the comparison results for dependence on several geophysical and instrument observational parameters, keeping a close look at the instruments’ performances during the seven years of data acquisition. Validation results will be presented for the operational ESA products and various scientific products.

Résumé : Abstract Aims: The aim of this study was to determine whether serum levels of adipokines, including the ratio of serum adiponectin to leptin (A/L) levels could predict the severity of liver injury in patients with non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Patients and methods: Fifty‐seven patients with biopsy‐proven non‐alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) (mean age 51±12, sex ratio 1), 17 with simple steatosis (mean age 47±12, sex ratio 1.4) and 10 controls without steatosis (mean age 51±11, sex ratio 4) were investigated. In all subjects, serum concentrations of triglycerides, ultrasensitive C reactive protein, leptin, adiponectin, soluble tumour necrosis factor receptor 1, interleukin (IL)‐6 and Homeostasis Model Assessment Method (HOMA) were measured. Hepatic expression of adiponectin and its two receptors was assessed by quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Results: Body mass index (BMI) and HOMA were correlated positively with leptin levels ( r =0.44 and 0.28 respectively) and negatively with the A/L ratio ( r =0.51 and 0.41 respectively). Independent parameters associated with NASH vs steatosis were HOMA>3 [odds ratio (OR)=6.9] and A/L ratio <1.4 10 3 (OR=5.2). The combination of HOMA with A/L ratio showed an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.82 for distinguishing between NASH and steatosis. Extensive portal fibrosis was present in 17 (23%) patients with NAFLD. Three independent parameters were associated with fibrosis: age (OR=1.1), BMI (OR=1.3) and high IL‐6 levels (OR=1.6). The hepatic expression of adiponectin receptor 2 was significantly higher in patients with NASH compared with controls and was related with necroinflammatory injury. Conclusions: This study shows that in patients with NAFLD, the combination of HOMA with A/L ratio may be a useful non‐invasive approach to appreciate the severity of liver damage.

Résumé : Choosing diagnosis codes is a non-intuitive operation for the practitioner. Mistakes are frequent with severe consequences on healthcare evaluation and funding.French physicians have to assign a code for everything they do and they are not spared with these kinds of errors. We propose a tool named REFEROCOD to support the medical coding task in order to minimize errors without losing time, by suggesting a list of codes in accordance with the physician activities and of the patient medical context. The proposed method uses probabilistic knowledge and indicates the probability to have a proper diagnosis code considering the realized procedure, age, sex and other information available in the discharge abstract.

Résumé : The sleep apnea syndrome is a real public health problem. Improving its diagnosis using the polysomnography is of huge importance. Optisas was a visual method allowing translating the polysomnographic data into a meaningful image. In a previous paper, it was shown to bring extra information in 62% of cases. Here its capacity for displaying information of the same relevance as the one got using the classical report of the polysomnography is studied. The main result is that this capacity is weak and seems to be present only to identify the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Moreover this study suggests to improve the standardization of the classical report in the framework of a quality insurance process.

Résumé : Background: Previous studies have suggested that the activity of enzymes involved in the urea cycle may modulate nitric oxide (NO) production, arterial vasomotion, and hypertension. Our aim was to determine whether hypertension and coronary vasomotion could be associated with polymorphisms within the ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) gene, located on chromosome X and coding for a key-enzyme of the urea cycle. Methods: Among 11 OTC polymorphisms that were originally selected from databases, the tag single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs5963409 and the independent SNP rs1800321 were tested for association with hypertension in two independent population samples recruited in Northern (Multinational MONItoring of trends and determinants in CArdiovascular disease (MONICA) study, n = 1,138) and Western (Etude du Vieillissement Artériel (EVA) study, n = 1,166) France. The vasomotor response of coronary arteries to methylergonovine maleate and isosorbide dinitrate was also evaluated in an independent sample (the vasomotion study, n = 121). Results: In males, the frequency of the rs5963409 minor allele was consistently higher in hypertensive (HT) than in normotensive subjects in the MONICA and EVA studies. In the combined sample, the rs5963409 minor allele was associated with an increased risk of hypertension (odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval (CI)) = 1.45 (1.10-1.90); P = 0.008). This association was independent of classical confounding factors. Consistently, rs5963409 minor allele was associated with a greater susceptibility to vasoconstriction in response to methylergonovine maleate (P = 0.0072). In contrast, no significant association between rs5963409 and hypertension could be detected in females. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the OTC rs5963409 polymorphism may be associated with hypertension and coronary vasomotion in males.

Résumé : We present algorithms for plane-based calibration of general radially distorted cameras. By this we understand cameras that have a distortion center and an optical axis such that the projection rays of pixels lying on a circle centered on the distortion center, form a right viewing cone centered on the optical axis. The camera is said to have a single viewpoint (SVP) if all such viewing cones have the same apex (the optical center), otherwise we speak of NSVP cases. This model encompasses the classical radial distortion model [4], fisheyes and most central or non-central catadioptric cameras. Calibration consists in the estimation of the distortion center, the opening angles of all viewing cones and their optical centers. We present two approaches of computing a full calibration from dense correspondences of a single or multiple planes with known Euclidean structure. The first one is based on a geometric constraint linking viewing cones and their intersections with the calibration plane (conic sections). The second approach is an homography-based method. Experiments using simulated and a broad variety of real cameras show great stability. Furthermore, we provide a comparison with Hartley-Kang's algorithm [14], which however can not handle such a broad variety of camera configurations, showing similar performance.
