Résumé : The impact of stratospheric ozone on the tropospheric general circulation of theSouthern Hemisphere (SH) is examined with a set of chemistry‐climate models participatingin the Stratospheric Processes and their Role in Climate (SPARC)/Chemistry‐ClimateModel Validation project phase 2 (CCMVal‐2). Model integrations of both the past andfuture climates reveal the crucial role of stratospheric ozone in driving SH circulationchange: stronger ozone depletion in late spring generally leads to greater polewarddisplacement and intensification of the tropospheric midlatitude jet, and greater expansion ofthe SH Hadley cell in the summer. These circulation changes are systematic as polewarddisplacement of the jet is typically accompanied by intensification of the jet and expansion ofthe Hadley cell. Overall results are compared with coupled models participating in theIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report (IPCC AR4), andpossible mechanisms are discussed. While the tropospheric circulation response appearsquasi‐linearly related to stratospheric ozone changes, the quantitative response to a givenforcing varies considerably from one model to another. This scatter partly results fromdifferences in model climatology. It is shown that poleward intensification of the westerly jetis generally stronger in models whose climatological jet is biased toward lower latitudes. This result is discussed in the context of quasi‐geostrophic zonal mean dynamics.

Résumé : Adaptation to the environment and reproduction are dependent on the date of flowering in the season. The objectives of this paper were to evaluate the effect of photoperiod on flowering date of the model species for legume crops, Medicago truncatula and to describe genetic architecture of this trait in multiple mapping populations. The effect of photoperiod (12 and 18 h) was analysed on eight lines. Quantitative variation in three recombinant inbred lines (RILs) populations involving four parental lines was evaluated, and QTL detection was carried out. Flowering occurred earlier in long than in short photoperiods. Modelling the rate of progression to flowering with temperature and photoperiod gave high R-2, with line-specific parameters that indicated differential responses of the lines to both photoperiod and temperature. QTL detection showed a QTL on chromosome 7 that was common to all populations and seasons. Taking advantage of the multiple mapping populations, it was condensed into a single QTL with a support interval of only 0.9 cM. In a bioanalysis, six candidate genes were identified in this interval. This design also indicated other genomic regions that were involved in flowering date variation more specifically in one population or one season. The analysis on three different mapping populations detected more QTLs than on a single population, revealed more alleles and gave a more precise position of the QTLs that were common to several populations and/or seasons. Identification of candidate genes was a result of integration of QTL analysis and genomics in M. truncatula.

Résumé : The STEREO/Waves experiment is dedicated to the study of inner heliosphere radio emissions. This experiment is composed of a set of two identical receivers placed on each of the two STEREO spacecraft. The STEREO/Waves receivers have instantaneous Goniopolarimetric (GP) capabilities (also referred to as direction-finding capabilities). This means that it is possible to retrieve the direction of arrival of an incoming electromagnetic radio wave, its flux and its polarization. We review the state of the art of GP-capable radio receivers and available GP techniques. We then present the GP capabilities of the STEREO/Waves experiment. We finally show some GP results on solar Type III radio bursts, using data recorded with the Cassini/RPWS/HFR, which are very similar to the STEREO/Waves data.

Résumé : Hantaviruses belong to the Bunyaviridae family. While usually hosted by wild mammals, they are potentially pathogenic for humans, and several serologically distinct groups associated with different syndromes have been identified. Yet, investigations have mostly been conducted where human infections by hantaviruses constitute a real and well-identified public health problem, i.e., the holarctic and neotropical areas. Some hantaviruses have also been described from a Suncus murinus in India and a Bandicota indica in Thailand. In addition, recent investigations in Cambodia revealed new Hantavirus types. More recently, two new Hantavirus species were described: Sangassou from a Hylomyscus simus, and Tanganya from a Crocidura theresae, both from Africa (Guinea), thus strongly questioning the current views about geographic range, evolution, and epidemiology of hantaviruses. In such a framework, we have conducted a survey of Hantavirus diversity in Southeast Asia which allows us to isolate the Thailand virus and address questions about the taxonomy of their rodent hosts. Here we present a molecular analysis of representatives of all currently known Hantavirus species, thus allowing the comparison between the newly described ones with a large range sample of rodent hantaviruses. Our results clearly point to the presence of a particular lineage of hantaviruses in Southeast Asia. It also strongly suggests that new viruses, additional mammalian hosts and different related syndromes in humans are likely to be discovered in the near future, particularly in Southeast Asia and in Africa, where Muridae rodents are highly diversified. Furthermore, additional work is also urgently needed to investigate the hantaviruses associated with Crociduridae and Soricidae.
