Résumé : A technique to retrieve surface soil moisture was assessed at the global scale using a synthetic data set of L-band (1.4 GHz) brightness temperatures T-B for 2 years, 1987 and 1988. The global T-B database consists of half-degree continental pixels and accounts for within-pixel heterogeneity, on the basis of 1 km resolution land cover maps. The retrievals were performed using a three-parameter inversion method applied to the L-band Microwave Emission of Biosphere model ( L-MEB). Three land surface variables were retrieved simultaneously from the multiangular and dual-polarization T-B data: surface soil moisture wg, vegetation optical depth tau, and surface temperature T-S. The retrievals were obtained in two T-S configurations: T-S was either unknown or known with an uncertainty of 2 K. Applying these two assumptions, global maps of the estimated accuracy of the wg retrievals were produced, and the capability of the T-B to monitor wg was evaluated. A sensitivity study was carried out in order to analyze the effect of the main parameters that may affect the retrieval accuracy: the fraction cover of open water and forests, frozen soil conditions, and the radiometric noise on T-B. These results contribute to the better definition of the potential of the observations from future spaceborne missions such as the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity ( SMOS) project.

Résumé : We have compared the site-by-site N-glycosylation status of human lactoferrin (Lf) produced in maize, a monocotyledon, and in tobacco, used as a model dicotyledon. Maize and tobacco plants were stably transformed and recombinant Lf was purified from both seeds and leaves. N-glycopeptides were generated by trypsin digestion of recombinant Lf and purified by reverse-phase HPLC. The N-glycosylation pattern of each site was determined by mass spectrometry. Our results indicated that the N-glycosylation patterns of recombinant Lf produced in maize and tobacco share common structural features. In particular, both N-glycosylation sites of each recombinant Lf are mainly substituted by typical plant paucimannose-type N-glycans, with beta1,2-xylose and alpha1,3-linked fucose at the proximal N-acetylglucosamine. However, tobacco Lf shows a significant amount of processed N-glycans with one or two beta1,2GlcNAc linked to the trimannose core, which are weakly expressed in maize Lf. Finally, no Lewisa epitope was observed on tobacco Lf.

Résumé : We explicit the dynamic equations followed by a tree during its growth according to the Greenlab model. In a first part we explicit the Organogenesis equations. In the second part, we recall the equations which, using a macroscopic photosynthesis point of view, describe with a great precision the evolution of the organ sizes. In a third part we establish the morphogenesis equations describing the geometry of a tree. The three parts are illustrated with an example.

Résumé : Time-resolved carrier dynamics in single wall carbon nanotubes is investigated by means of two-color pump-probe experiments. The recombination dynamics is monitored by probing the transient photo-bleaching observed on the first interband transition of the semi-conducting tubes. The carrier dynamics takes place on a one picosecond time scale which is one order of magnitude slower than in graphite. Transient photo-induced absorption is observed with exactly the same dynamics for non-resonant probe conditions and is interpreted as a global red shift of the $\pi-$plasmon resonance. We show that the opening of the band gap in semi-conducting carbon nanotubes determines the non-linear response dynamics over the whole visible and near-infrared spectrum.

Résumé : Nous présentons les fonctionnalités et les premiers tests d’un système d’observation et d’analyse de séances d’enseignement, en direct. Nous montrons que ce système prend mieux en compte certains paramètres importants des situations scolaires que les méthodes d’observation classiques, comme leur temporalité complexe et le fait que les actions de l’enseignant et des élèves ne sont pas seulement dépendantes de l’action qui précède.

Résumé : Some athletes habitually explain bad events with causes that are stable in time and global in effect, and explain good events with causes that are unstable and specific. This pessimistic explanatory style constitutes a dispositional risk factor likely to lead to lower expectations of success, to increased anxiety, and to poor achievement. 62 participants (mean age 14 years) performed a basketball dribbling trial and were given false feedback indicating that they had failed. Consistent with prediction, in a second trial, the optimistic participants (N = 22) were less anxious (assessed by heart rate acceleration), more confident, and performed better than pessimistic participants (N = 20). A third group with a neutral explanatory style (N = 20) obtained scores which were between the two other groups.

Résumé : Complexity in the digital systems integration rises from the heterogeneity of the components integrated in a chip. The aim of the Sophocles project is to validate methodologies, platforms and technologies to support integration, verification and programming, over a distributed environment, of complex systems composed of heterogeneous virtual components. Several formalisms are gathered, according to their applicability, in order to immediately propose a framework of formal specification and validation of applications for SoCs. The unification of these formalisms in a modeling language facilitates the work of the users while guaranteeing a strong semantics on all the levels of the specification.

Résumé : Polychromatic x-ray radiation has been produced during the relativistic interaction of a 50-TW femtosecond laser with a helium gas jet. We have characterized the spectrum and the angular distribution of the x-ray emission as well as its dependency on the laser polarization and on the plasma electronic density. We have observed a broad continuous spectrum peaking at 0.15 keV with a significant tail up to 2 keV. The radiation was fairly collimated.
