Résumé : This paper presents a master-slave system applied to the remote diagnosis from echographic data. The motion of the master manipulator is remotely controlled by a physician and reproduced by a slave robot carrying the echographic probe. The contact force between the probe and the patient is fed back to operator allowing him to have a haptic virtual environment. The innovation of this haptic control is to preserve medical expert propioception and gesture feelings, which are necessary to synchronize the ultrasound images with the motion made by the medical doctor. The slave robot is a cable-driven manipulator using pneumatic artificial muscle actuators to control the motion of the ultrasound probe. In this paper we present the architecture and the performances of the slave robot and the first experiments of the master-slave remote echography system for examinations of pregnant women.

Résumé : Le domaine du sport et des activités physiques est traditionnellement considéré comme plutôt masculin, et incompatible avec un rôle féminin. Comme l'ont montré les travaux sur la construction des rôles sexués, cette socialisation différenciée affecte les attitudes et les comportements de sujets. Dans cette étude menée auprès de 782 adolescents (361 garçons et 461 filles) âgés en moyenne de 15,4 ans (ET = 0,83 ans), il est supposé que leurs choix et leurs rejets concernant les activités physiques et sportives dans le cadre des cours d'E.P.S. sont médiés par leurs scores aux sous-échelles «masculine» et «féminine» de la version française de l'Inventaire des Rôles Sexués de Bem (Fontayne, Sarrazin, et Famose, 2000). Les résultats sont discutés à la lumière des divers cadres théoriques définissant les relations entre les différents «rôles de genre» et, en particulier, du modèle «additif et différentiel» de l'androgynie (Marsh et Byrne, 1991).

Résumé : Since the late 80s', emerging economies are striking by a recurrent instability of their financial system. The main lesson is that the domestic institutional infrastructure represents a critical condition necessary for successful liberalization. This critical condition refers to what we agree to call the " domestic governance " approach. The traditional answer provided in order to deal with this instability refers to the so-called " new international financial infrastructure ". This initiative seems insufficient because it does not take into account the degree of adaptability of the prevailing domestic institutions. The purpose of our paper is to propose an analytical framework aimed at studying the relationship between " domestic governance " and " global governance ". The challenge becomes to organize a multi-speed financial liberalization process in which capital controls could play a decisive role.

Résumé : Investigations of quantum effects in semiconductor quantum well microcavities interacting with laser light in the strong coupling regime are presented. Modification of quantum fluctuations of the outgoing light are expected due to the non-linearity originating from coherent exciton-exciton scattering. In the strong coupling regime, this scattering translates into a four-wave mixing interaction between the mixed exciton-photon states, the polaritons. Squeezing and giant amplification of the polariton field and of the outgoing light field fluctuations are predicted. However, polariton-phonon scattering is shown to yield excess noise in the output field, which may destroy the non classical effects. Experiments demonstrate evidence for giant amplification due to coherent four-wave mixing of polaritons. Noise reduction below the thermal noise level was also observed.

Résumé : The goal of this paper is to propose a model of the hippocampal system that reconciles the presence of neurons that look like "place cells" with the implication of the hippocampus (Hs) in other cognitive tasks (e.g., complex conditioning acquisition and memory tasks). In the proposed model, "place cells" or "view cells" are learned in the perirhinal and entorhinal cortex. The role of the Hs is not fundamentally dedicated to navigation or map building, the Hs is used to learn, store, and predict transitions between multimodal states. This transition prediction mechanism could be important for novelty detection but, above all, it is crucial to merge planning and sensory-motor functions in a single and coherent system. A neural architecture embedding this model has been successfully tested on an autonomous robot, during navigation and planning in an open environment.
