Résumé : This paper discusses the implementation of modulation chains for multi-standard communications on a dynamically and partially reconfigurable heterogeneous platform. Implementation results highlight the benefit of considering a DSP/FPGA platform instead of a multi-DSP platform since the FPGA supports efficiently intensive computation components, which reduces the DSP load. Furthermore, partial dynamic reconfiguration increases the overall performance as compared to total dynamic reconfiguration since there is 45% of bitstream size reduction, which leads to a 45% decrease of the whole reconfiguration time. The implementation of modulation chains for multi-standard communications proves the availability of new technology to support efficiently Software Defined Radio.

Résumé : The aim of the AgrBMPWater project is to describe a method allowing stakeholders select, at a local scale and for a specific environmental concern, the most cost-effective Best Management Practices (BMPs) through their comparison in terms of hydrological effectiveness, costs for the farmers and society, and acceptability. These guidelines are a summary of the analytical methods, empirical techniques, data sources and results that can assist in performing integrated analyses of environmental, agricultural, economical and social aspects of agri-environmental policy implementation and management.

Résumé : The Atlantic South-eastern margin is influenced by the presence of broad upwelling cells associated with the Benguela Current System. Sedimentary records of cores taken from 35°S to 10°S between 1000 to 4000m depth show extraordinarily high organic carbon (OM) contents for this deep and oxygenated environment. Thus this margin is different from classically known models of preservation in deep setting by the bottom water anoxia or redepositional processes Temporal variability of organic carbon observed along this margin from the north of Walvis ridge to South Africa, shows an enrichment in total organic carbon (TOC) during the Last Glacial Maximum (20kyrs) with respect to Holocene Climatic Optimum(8kyrs). It is the same for biogenic silica, mainly related to diatoms input, which follows the same climatic logic. Carbonate contents are negatively correlated with TOC and biogenic silica. The Lüderitz upwelling cell is presently the most productive area of the Benguela Current System, during at least 280 kyrs, and abundant OM accumulates on the adjacent slope sediments even at great water depth. Results indicate that OM is more oxidized at 3606 m water depth than on the upper slope sediments (1029 m) although petroleum quality of OM throughout the deep-water core remains surprisingly high for hemipelagic deep-sea sediments (HI = 200 to 400 mg HC/g TOC). The petroleum quality of OM accumulated on the upper slope is consistently high: HI average 450 mg HC/g TOC. Organic sedimentation in front of Lüderitz is modellised with the software DIONISOS (IFP), in the aim of developping a 3D stratigraphic model and predicting petroleum quality and quantity of organic matter along the margin. The first step in modelling the deep organic matter sedimentation is to decipher between the main controlling factors the key parameters to be introduce in the model DIONISOS. This imply to define simple laws for productivity, degradation, advection of sediment, etc. Rock Eval parameters shows that organic sedimentation along the margin can be considered as an important source-rock sedimentation. Source-Rock Potential Index (SPI) calculations are in agreement with a maximum of a potential hydrocarbon formation in front of Lüderitz, from shallow depth (500m), to deeper depth (2000m). We believe that the probability that such organic-rich facies occurred in the past in equivalent oceanographic settings at the edge of large oceanic basins should be carefully considered in deep offshore exploration.

Résumé : This study assessed the relative efficiency of different warming devices (surgical sheets covering the body and a tubegauze on the head, forced-air warming, warming mattress) commonly used to prevent body hypothermia during neonatal surgery. Dry heat losses were measured from a thermal manikin, which simulated a low-birth-weight neonate of 1,800 g. The manikin's surface temperatures (35.8degreesC) corresponded to those of neonates nursed in closed incubators. Experiments were performed in a climatic chamber at an ambient temperature of 30degreesC, as commonly found in operating theatres. The supine manikin was naked or covered with operative sheets with a 5x5 cm aperture over the abdomen. Its head could be covered by a tubegauze. Additional warming was provided by conduction through a warming mattress (surface temperature, 39degreesC) and/or by convection (Bair Hugger, forced-air temperature 38degreesC). Covering the manikin with surgical sheets decreased the dry heat loss by 10.4 W. Additional forced-air warming was more efficient than the warming mattress to reduce the total dry heat loss (6.8 W vs 2.1 W). Heat losses were reduced by 7.9 W when combining the warming mattress and Bair Hugger. The heat loss from the head of the covered manikin was reduced from 4.5 W to 3.9 W when the head was covered with the tubegauze. Our data indicate that forced-air warming is more effective than conductive warming in preventing neonatal hypothermia during abdominal operations.

Résumé : OBJECTIVE: The VNTR polymorphism 5' of the insulin gene has been related to obesity in a previous study on children with early onset of severe obesity. Our purpose was to analyze the association between this polymorphism and adiposity variability in an unselected population of children and adolescents in northern France. RESEARCH METHODS AND PROCEDURES: In 293 nuclear families from the Fleurbaix Laventie Ville Sant?tudy, we genotyped the INS VNTR polymorphism in 431 children and adolescents (8 to 18 years of age) and their parents. Overweight was defined according to the international definition in both children and adults. A transmission disequilibrium test in families with an overweight offspring was performed. The prevalence of overweight was compared according to genotype. The effect of the genotype on BMI and waist circumference was tested with a linear regression model, adjusting for age, gender, and Tanner stage. RESULTS: There was an undertransmission of class III alleles from heterozygous parents to their overweight offspring (p < 0.002). Overweight was associated with class I alleles in children and adolescents (12% I/I, I/III vs. 3% III/III; p < 0.08). Those with a class III/III genotype had a 1 kg/m(2) lower mean BMI (p = 0.04) and 3 cm lower waist circumference (p = 0.02) than those bearing one or two class I alleles. No association of adiposity or obesity with class I alleles was found in parents. DISCUSSION: INS VNTR polymorphism seems to contribute to differences in adiposity level in the general population of children and adolescents.

Résumé : We investigate the mechanical properties of a static dense granular assembly in response to a local forcing. To this end, a small cyclic displacement is applied on a grain in the bulk of a two-dimensional disordered packing under gravity and the displacement fields are monitored. We evidence a dominant long range radial response in the upper half part above the solicitation and after a large number of cycles the response is "quasireversible" with a remanent dissipation field exhibiting long range streams and vortexlike symmetry.
