Résumé : Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is an inherited predisposition to colorectal and endometrial cancers caused by germline mutation of mismatch repair genes, with hMLH1 and hMSH2 underlying the majority of the cases. Although lymphoid tumors are the most common tumors in mouse models for HNPCC, lymphomas are almost never encountered in patients who have HNPCC, except in rare families with germline homozygous deletion of hMLH1. We report the case of a 53-year-old man who had a history of colon cancers related to constitutional hMLH1 mutation and who was diagnosed as having a duodenal follicular lymphoma This diagnosis was supported by IgH-BCL2 rearrangement and BCL2 immunoreactivity in tumor cells. The association of both of these possibly related rare diseases has never been reported. To clarify this relationship, we searched for hMLH1 expression and mismatch repair deficiency in the duodenal lymphoma. hMLH1 immunostaining was positive in lymphoid tumor cells, and no microsatellite instability was detected. In agreement with mouse models for HNPCC, these results suggest the involvement of alternative mechanisms to complete mismatch repair deficiency for lymphomagenesis in HNPCC syndrome.

Résumé : We have carried out experiments using a layered medium of sand and silicone to investigate the lateral extrusion of a material which spreads over its own weight while being compressed by the advance of a rigid indenter. Boundary conditions in the box mimic those prevailing in the Anatolian-Aegean system. Both shortening in front of the rigid piston, which models the northward motion of Arabia, and extension resulting from the gravity spreading of the sand-silicone layer are necessary to initiate the lateral extrusion. Strike-slip faults accommodate the lateral escape and link the normal faults accompanying gravity spreading with the thrust faults in front of the rigid indenter. Strike-slip faults begin to accommodate extrusion at a late stage in the experiments after the normal and thrust faults have developed. Experiments also show that the initial geometry of the boundary of the spreading layer may result in the formation of two arcs behind which material extends, in a manner analogous to the Hellenic and Cypriot arcs, without invoking a rheological change at the junction of the two arcs. The experiments also suggest that southward motion of the eastern part of the spreading region is compensated by the northward advance of the piston, which is a possible explanation for the slower movement of the Cypriot arc compared to the Aegean arc.

Résumé : A silicon carbide Schottky UV detector technology is proposed. The Au Schottky contact is delimited using lift-off technology. The contact window was open into a sandwich of SiO2 oxides in order to produce a small angle ramp that constitutes the dielectric part of the Schottky diode termination. The I-V and C-V characteristics measured under dark and illuminated UV irradiation conditions indicate a significant sensitivity with UV radiation.

Résumé : Adipogenesis corresponds to the recruitment of new adipocytes in adipose tissue, and results from the proliferation/differentiation of preadipocytes. Production of paracrine and autocrine factors by adipocytes plays an important role in adipogenesis. We recently demonstrated the existence of adipocyte production of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) both in vitro and in situ. This production is modulated by catecholamines via alpha 2-adrenergic receptors. Adipocyte-LPA present in conditioned media increases the growth of a preadipose cell line in culture. This growth is associated with an activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases, and of the focal adhesion kinase. Because of the close proximity of preadipocytes and adipocytes within adipose tissue, adipocyte-LPA could play an important role in autocrine/paracrine control of adipogenesis.

Résumé : New models for the high frequency capacitance-voltage, C(V) and forward curreat-voltage, I-F(V-F) characteristics of a large area 6H-SiC boron compensated pn junction have been developed and implemented in an optimal parameter extraction program. The C(V) model and SIMS measurements confirm the presence of two type regions (p(-) and n(-)) in the quasi-intrinsic layer induced by boron doping. The extracted values of the net doping of these zones (6-10 x 10(12) cm(-3)) are in good agreement with previously reported data. In contrast, the thickness of the quasi-intrinsic layer, about twice the epilayer width, proves the expansion of the quasi-intrinsic region in the substrate. The I-F(V-F) modeling includes a square law dependence of the forward current on VF, at high injection level. For the first time in the literature, saturation currents of SIC pn diodes is reported. The extracted saturation currents increase linearly with area, evidencing the beneficial effect of boron diffusion for obtaining predictable large area devices. The temperature behavior is also investigated. At high temperatures, the boron compensation effect is reduced.

Résumé : AMBER is a focal instrument for the Very Large Telescope Interferometer working in the near infrared from 1.1 to 2.4 micrometers . It has been designed having in mind the General User of interferometric observations and the full range of his possible astrophysical programs. However the three programs used to define the key specifications have been the study of Young Stellar Objects, the study of Active Galactic Nuclei dust tori and broad line regions and the measure of masses and spectra of hot Extra Solar Planets. AMBER combines up to three beams produced by the VLTI 8 m Unit Telescopes equipped with Adaptive Optics and/or by the 1.8 m Auxiliary Telescopes. The fringes are dispersed with resolutions ranging from 35 to 10000. It is optimized for high accuracy single mode measurements of the absolute visibility, of the variation of the visibility and phase with wavelength (differential interferometry) and of phase closure relations with three telescopes. The instrument and its software are designed to allow a highly automated user friendly operation and an easy maintenance.
