Résumé : The purpose of this investigation was to test the predictive value of the achievement goals theory on voluntary information selection. In a first study, 86 subjects could assess their performance after a motor test. The results showed that ego-oriented subjects chose normative information if they had a high perceived ability, and rejected information if they had a low one; task-oriented subjects chose objective information regardless of their perceived ability. In a second study, 108 subjects could use information during a training period. Data confirmed the prior results for ego-oriented subjects, and showed that task-oriented subjects preferred task information if they had a low perceived ability and objective information if they had a high one.

Résumé : By the term "Primary Secretion Defect" (PSD), we mean a common heterogeneous group of congenital defects of platelet secretion, characterized by a normal primary wave of platelet aggregation induced by ADP and other agonists, a normal concentration of platelet granule contents, and normal production of thromboxane A2. The biochemical abnormalities responsible for PSD are not well known. Since a secretion defect similar to PSD is found in platelets that are severely deficient of binding sites for the ADP analogue 2MeS-ADP and do not aggregate in response to ADP, we tested the hypothesis that PSD platelets have moderately decreased 2MeS-ADP binding sites, which may be sufficient for normal ADP-induced aggregation but not for potentiating platelet secretion. The specific binding of [33P]2MeS-ADP to platelets from 3 PSD patients (347, 443 and 490 sites/platelet; KD 2.8-3.9 nM) was lower than to platelets from 24 normal subjects (647 [530-1102]; KD = 3.8 [2.3-7.3]) (median [range]). Normal values were found in a fourth PSD patient (710; KD 3.7). The degree of inhibition of PGE1-induced cAMP increase by 0.1 microM ADP was lower in patients than in controls. The secretion induced by the endoperoxide analogue U46619 from normal, acetylsalicylic acid-treated platelets under conditions that prevented the formation of large aggregates was potentiated by 1 mumol/l ADP and inhibited by apyrase. These findings indicate that a partial deficiency of the platelet ADP receptor(s) might be responsible for the defect of platelet secretion in some PSD patients and that ADP potentiates platelet secretion independently of the formation of large aggregates and thromboxane A2 production.

Résumé : The aim of this work is to obtain, without sintering, AlN compacts with a high thermal conductivity λ. We report in this paper the main experimental results obtained. We show that a high value of λ could not be reached by using only AlN powder. It is necessary to realize AlN/metal binary mixtures to improve the compactness of the samples. Physical aspects such as porosity, ductility of metals and chemical aspects (purity, surface state of AlN powder) must be considered. For AlN-metal compacts, it was considered to be of interest to use the hot-pressing technique in order to reduce porosity by bending metal grains, thus to improving thermal conductivity.

Résumé : Endothelial cells and pericytes are closely associated in brain capillaries. Together with astrocytic foot processes, they form the blood-brain barrier. Capillaries were isolated from bovine brain cortex. Pure populations of endothelial cells and pericytes were isolated and cultured in vitro. Polarized monolayers of endothelial cells preferentially secreted immunoreactive endothelin-1 (Et-1) at their abluminal (brain-facing) membrane. They did not express receptors for Et-1. Pericytes expressed BQ-123-sensitive ET_A receptors for endothelins as evidenced by ¹²⁵I-Et-1 binding experiments. These receptors were coupled to phospholipase C as demonstrated by intracellular calcium measurements using indo-1-loaded cells. Addition of Et-1 to pericytes induced marked changes in the cell morphology that were associated with a reorganization of F-actin and intermediate filaments. It is concluded that Et-1 is a paracrine mediator at the bovine blood-brain barrier and that capillary pericytes are target cells for endothelium-derived Et-1.
