Résumé : A novel heptacyclic C37 alkane presenting a regular polyprenoid structure has been isolated from a biodegraded bituminous rock and identified by NMR; this hydrocarbon is the most highly cyclized polyprenoid alkane ever completely identified; the absence of specific methyl groups give clues to unprecedented biological precursor lipids resulting from the extensive cyclization of regular octaprenoids.

Résumé : Multi-connected Universe models with space idenfication scales smaller than the size of the observable universe produce topological images in the catalogs of cosmic sources. In this review, we present the recent developments for the search of the topology of the universe focusing on three dimensional methods. We present the crystallographic method, we give a new lower bound on the size of locally Euclidean multi-connected universe model of $3000 h^{-1} \hbox{Mpc}$ based on this method and a quasar catalog, we discuss its successes and failures, and the attemps to generalise it. We finally introduce a new statistical method based on a collecting correlated pair (CCP) technique.

Résumé : The distribution and the nature of vertical short-scale structures observed in ozone and temperature are investigated in the upper troposphere and the lower stratosphere at La Reunion Island located in the vicinity of the southern subtropical barrier by using wavelet-based methods. A climatology of dominant wavelike patterns with short vertical wavelengths reveals the presence of localized structures on both the ozone and the temperature perturbations, extracted from ozonesonde and temperature data, up to the middle stratosphere. Some case studies are presented to identify the nature of short-scale structures with 1- to 5-km vertical wavelengths in the troposphere and the stratosphere. A climatology of short-scale structures induced by gravity waves and the horizontal advection shows that short-scale structures are mainly detected in the middle and upper troposphere and in the lower stratosphere. The weak value of the coefficient R(z) that links the ozone and temperature perturbations induced by gravity waves is a major limit to detecting such short-scale structures above 21-km altitude. Some structures with vertical wavelengths ranging from 1 to 5 km are attributed to gravity waves produced by convection in summer and the subtropical jet in winter, or quasi-horizontal large-scale motions from both sides of the subtropical barrier.

Résumé : This paper is concerned with the reconstruction, from measured (synthetic and experimental) data, of a 2D penetrable fluid-like cylindrical object of arbitrary cross-section imbedded in a fluid-like (sediment) half-space separated by a plane interface from another fluid halfspace (deep water) wherein propagates a plane acoustic interrogating wave. The Green theorem is used to provide (1) a domain integral representation (DIR) of the scattered field and (2) a domain integral equation (DIE) for the pressure field in a test region containing the object. Both the DIE and DIR are discretized by collocation, thereby leading to a linear system of equations for the discretized pressure in the test region and a linear transform for the discretized pressure outside the test region. This is the means adopted herein for generating synthetic scattered field data. The inverse problem is linearized by replacing the (unknown) field in the test region by the (known) field which is established in the water/sediment system in the absence of the object. Using this Born approximation and minimizing the discrepancy between the measured and model scattered fields gives rise to a linear system of equations for the (unknown) discretized index-of-refraction contrast function in the test region. Due to its ill conditioned nature, the linear system is solved by a singular value decomposition technique. Images of the index-of-refraction contrast representation of the object obtained by inversion of both simulated and experimentally measured scattered field data are presented and compared.
