Résumé : Until recently, the roles of plant MADS-box genes have mainly been characterized during inflorescence and flower dierentiation. In order to precise the roles of AGAMOUS-LIKE 12, one of the few MADS-box genes preferentially expressed in roots, we placed its cDNA under the control of the double 35S CaMV promoter to produce transgenic walnut tree and Arabidopsis plants. In Juglans sp., transgenic somatic embryos showed significantly higher germination rates but abnormal development of their shoot apex prevented their conversion into plants. In addition, a wide range of developmental abnormalities corresponding to ectopic root-like structures aected the transgenic lines suggesting partial reorientations of the embryonic program toward root dierentiation. In Arabidopsis, AtAGL12 overexpression lead to the production of faster growing plants presenting dramatically wider and shorter root phenotypes linked to increased meristematic cell numbers within the root apex. In the upper part of the roots, abnormal cell divisions patterns within the pericycle layer generated large ectopic cell masses that did not prevent plants to grow. Taken together, our results confirm in both species that AGL12 positively regulates root meristem cell division and promotes overall root vascular tissue formation. Genetic engineering of AGL12 expression levels could be useful to modulate root architecture and development.

Résumé : High-resolution clay mineral analyses were performed on lower and middle Albian deposits from the Paris and Vocontian basins in order to specify the weathering conditions that prevailed at that time. The clay mineral assemblages are composed of small proportions of chlorite and vermiculitic clays associated with abundant illite, R0 type illite-smectite mixed-layers (smectite) and kaolinite. Clay minerals originated from the physical alteration and chemical weathering of rocks and soils outcropping on the Variscan massifs bordering the studied areas. In the Paris Basin, the covariation of illite and kaolinite suggests the reworking of these latter minerals from palaeoalterations and saprolites coupled with an intense runoff on the London-Brabant Massif under a warm-temperate climate.In comparison with the Paris Basin, the lower Albian series deposited in the Vocontian Basin are enriched in smectite because of the preferential deposition of this mineral in deep offshore environments. In this basin, illite and kaolinite did not show any covariation suggesting that kaolinite is rather the chemical weathering product of rocks exposed in the French Massif Central. The stratigraphic distribution of clay minerals in both studied areas is consistent with a cooler and dryer climate around the Aptian/Albian transition. An enhanced precipitation rate is suggested by an increasing proportion of kaolinite from the Douvilleiceras mammillatum Zone upward. This humid interval ended in the Anahoplites intermedius Zone contemporaneous with the smectite-rich sedimentation in the Paris Basin revealing semi-arid conditions consistent with palynological data. This semi-arid interval encompassing the Dimorphoplites niobe and D. biplicatus zones (and possibly the Dipoloceras cristatum Zone) is interrupted at the base of the Mortoniceras pricei Zone by a return to a more humid climate.

Résumé : Purpose Unilateral posterior vertical insufficiency (PVI) is a growth defect of the mandibular condyle that results in a facial asymmetry. Various surgical procedures can be used to elongate the hypoplastic ramus. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term aesthetic and architectural outcomes of vertical ramus osteotomy (VRO) in patients with unilateral PVI. Materials and methods Patients operated on with unilateral VRO were included in this retrospective study. Aesthetic and architectural parameters were evaluated on frontal photographs as well as on frontal and lateral cephalograms preoperatively, postoperatively, at 1-year and at the end of the follow-up. Results A total of 48 patients were analyzed. The aesthetic assessment revealed significant correction of the chin deviation (CD) and of the lip commissural line tilt after VRO (p1 = 0.0038 and p2 = 0.0067, respectively) with stable results. The architectural analysis revealed significant improvement in the maxillary and mandibular occlusal planes, as well as the chin deviation (p < 0.0001). A tendency to relapse was noted for the mandibular canting and the CD during the follow-up. VRO allowed for a mean mandibular lengthening of 8.39 mm (ranging from 2.5 to 14 mm). Conclusion VRO allows for immediate restoration of the symmetry of the lower third of the face in patients with unilateral PVI. A revisional procedure may be needed due to a tendency for the chin deviation to relapse.

Résumé : Drawing on thirty years of empirical research, this book reveals the diversity of managerial practices that may be observed throughout the world, even in places where companies are using management methods that appear identical. Using data from over fifty countries, it presents a new theoretical approach to cultural diversity whereby culture is considered a filter through which people understand reality and give it meaning. This interpretative perspective reminds us that interactions within organizational contexts are primarily social, and thus conceived differently from one culture to another. This is fundamental to our understanding of the challenges of globalization and the powerful forces that foster the international homogenization of management practices. Leadership, decision-making, customer relations, ethics and corporate social responsibility, and interpersonal and corporate communication are just some aspects of management underpinned and influenced by cultural variation. In response to this intellectual and practical challenge this book provides methodological guidelines to enable researchers and practitioners to engage in an alternative approach to cross-cultural management.
