Résumé : The chemokine CCL11 has been implicated in age-related cognitive deterioration in mice, yet evidence on the relationship between CCL11 and cognitive function in humans is limited. This study explored associations between CCL11 and cognition in rural and urban community-dwelling older adults. Participants were 515 urban dwellers from the 3C-Bordeaux cohort and 318 rural dwellers from the AMI cohort. Plasma CCL11 was measured using an enzyme-linked immunoassay. Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) test scores were used as the main measure of cognitive performance. Multivariate regression analysis was used to evaluate the cross-sectional association between CCL11 and cognitive performance. CCL11 was significantly higher in rural dwellers compared to city dwellers (median [IQR]: 145 [115-201] pg/mL vs. 103 [85-129] pg/mL; p<0.001). After adjustment for confounders, CCL11 was found to be negatively associated with cognitive performance in rural dwellers but not in city dwellers. These results suggest that CCL11 may be an independent determinant of cognitive function in older rural dwellers and that the residential environment modifies this association.

Résumé : Few studies have been interested in the relationship between dietary patterns and activity limitation in older adults yet. We analysed the association between dietary patterns and the risk of self-reported activity limitation - that is mobility restriction, limitation in instrumental activities in daily living (IADL) and in activities in daily living (ADL) - in community-dwellers aged 67+ years initially free of activity limitation in 2001-2002 and re-examined at least once over 10 years - that is 583 participants for mobility restriction, 1114 for IADL limitation and 1267 for ADL limitation. At baseline, five sex-specific dietary clusters were derived by hybrid clustering method from weekly frequency of intake of twenty food and beverage items. Self-reported mobility restriction, limitations in IADL and in ADL were assessed using the Rosow-Breslau, the Lawton-Brody and the Katz scales, respectively. Associations between dietary clusters and the risk of each activity limitation were assessed using Cox proportional hazard models. In models adjusted for socio-demographic and health-related covariates, compared with the 'Healthy' cluster the 'Biscuits and snacking' cluster was associated with a higher risk of mobility restriction (hazard ratio (HR)=3.0; 95 % CI 1.6, 5.8) and limitation in IADL (HR=2.1; 95 % CI 1.1, 4.2) in men and limitation in ADL in women (HR=2.3; 95 % CI 1.3, 4.0). In this French cohort of community-dwellers aged 67+ years, some unhealthy dietary patterns may increase the risk of activity limitation all along the disablement process in older adults.

Résumé : BACKGROUND & AIMS: Mediterranean diet (MeDi) is considered as a key component for healthy aging, including prevention of age-related disability, while its association with frailty, independent of disability has never been assessed. Our objective was to investigate the relation between MeDi adherence and frailty incidence among persons aged >/=75 years participating at the prospective population-based French Three-City Study. METHODS: The study sample consisted of 560 initially non-frail participants of the Three-City-Bordeaux center, seen at the 2009-2010 follow-up, and re-examined two years later. Adherence to MeDi was computed from a food frequency questionnaire (scored as 0-9). Frailty was defined as having at least three out of the following five slightly modified Fried frailty criteria: involuntary weight loss, exhaustion, slowness, weakness and low physical activity. Logistic regression models adjusted for sociodemographic and clinical covariates, including cognitive performance and depressive symptomatology, were used to assess the association between MeDi score and subsequent frailty risk. RESULTS: Over the 2-year follow-up, 79 participants (14%) became frail. Older adults with the highest MeDi adherence (score 6-9) had a significantly 68% frailty risk reduction (95% CI: 28-86%, p = 0.006) compared to those in the lowest MeDi category (score 0-3). Regarding the frailty criterion separately, the highest MeDi adherence was associated with a significantly reduced risk of incident slowness (OR = 0.45; 95% CI: 0.20-0.99, p = 0.04), poor muscle strength (OR = 0.44; 95% CI: 0.20-0.98, p = 0.04) and low physical activity (OR = 0.39; 95% CI: 0.18-0.82, p = 0.01), compared to the lowest MeDi adherence. CONCLUSION: In addition to its well-documented beneficial effects on health, adherence to MeDi might contribute to prevent the onset of frailty, even at late stages of life.

Résumé : Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is a consolidated powder metallurgy process for which the powder sintering is achieved through an applied electric current. The present paper aims at describing the method we employed to develop a TiAl-based alloy adjusted for this SPS process. Owing to its enhanced mechanical properties, this alloy was found to fully match the industrial specifications for aeronautic and automotive industries that require a high strength at high temperature and a reasonably good ductility at room temperature. A step by step method was followed for this alloy development. Starting from a basic study on the as-SPSed GE alloy (Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb) in which the influence of the microstructure was studied, the microstructure-alloy composition relationships were then investigated to increase the mechanical properties. As a result of this study, we concluded that tungsten had to be the major alloying element to improve the resistance at high temperature and a careful addition of boron would serve the properties at room temperature. Thus, we developed the IRIS alloy (Ti-48Al-2W-0.08B). Its microstructure and mechanical properties are described here.

Résumé : Loflòc (Lexic obert flechit occitan - Lexique ouvert fléchi occitan) est un lexique informatisé de formes fléchies en occitan. Il a été réalisé dans le cadre du projet ANR RESTAURE (Bernard et Vergez-Couret, 2016) en collaboration avec Lo Congrès Permanent de la Lenga Occitana . La création d'un lexique informatisé pour l'occitan s'intègre dans un projet plus global de création de ressources linguistiques informatisées (pour une langue qui dispose de peu de ressources à l'heure actuelle). Ces ressources, qu’elles soient lexicales comme LoFlòc, ou textuelles comme BaTelÒc (Bras et Thomas 2011, Bras et Vergez Couret 2016), sont conçues en suivant un double objectif : d'une part la préservation et la diffusion du patrimoine linguistique et d'autre part la création de ressources pour le développement d'outils de traitement automatique des langues (par exemple des outils pour la recherche et l’extraction d'information, la traduction automatique...). La création de ces ressources se fait en harmonie avec la Feuille de route pour le développement du numérique occitan (Lo Congrès, 2014 ; Dazéas, 2015, Séguier et Mercadier, 2016). Les objectifs qui ont présidé à la création de Loflòc sont les suivants : •Doter l'occitan d'un lexique structuré de formes fléchies adapté aux besoins du TAL (Traitement Automatique des Langues) pour être intégré à des applications comme un lemmatiseur ou un analyseur morphosyntaxique (Vergez-Couret et Urieli, 2015) ; •Intégrer le lexique dans une interface de consultation ; •Utiliser un jeu d'étiquettes morphosyntaxiques (tagset) standard ; •Accueillir par étapes toute la variation (dialectale, intra-dialectale, graphique). Les variations, qu'elles soient dialectales, intradialectales ou graphiques, sont présentes dans les productions en occitan, anciennes et actuelles. Les outils automatiques, tout comme les locuteurs (néo-locuteurs, apprenants…), sont confrontés à toutes ces variations. Afin de bâtir des outils les plus robustes possibles, il faut savoir décrire et représenter cette variation dans les lexiques. En outre, dans les outils de consultation et d'interrogation du lexique, l'utilisateur pourra découvrir et mieux appréhender toute la variation possible. Pour constituer ce lexique, nous commençons par intégrer des ressources existantes au format numérique, à les enrichir avec des informations grammaticales lorsque ces dernières sont incomplètes ou inadaptées et à compléter les paradigmes flexionnels (genre et nombre…). Les premières ressources intégrées à Loflòc pour le languedocien sont le Dictionnaire Occitan-Français Languedocien de Laux (2001), Dictionnaire Français-Occitan Languedocien de Laux (2005) ainsi que les données de l'application vèrb'Òc, conjugueur édité par Lo Congrès (Sauzet et Ubaud, 1995 ; Sauzet, 2016). En effet, ceux-ci ayant été normalisés au format XML (norme TEI P5) par le Congrès, il a été possible d’en extraire automatiquement les lemmes, leurs flexions et les informations grammaticales nécessaires. En ce qui concerne la structure et le choix des standards pour Loflòc, nous nous inspirons des lexiques français tels que Morphalou (Romary, et al, 2004) et GlaFF (Sajous, et al., 2013). Nous avons adopté les étiquettes du standard Eagles/Multext/Grace (Rajman et al., 1997) que nous avons gardées en anglais tout en les adaptant aux spécificités de l'occitan. Cela facilitera la comparaison de notre lexique aux lexiques des langues proches qui ont également adopté des jeux d'étiquettes semblables et comparables (français, catalan). Nous présenterons dans la communication le lexique, sa structure, son contenu, ainsi que les différents types d’application qui ne peuvent être développées sans un lexique de ce type (analyseurs morpho-syntaxiques, analyseurs syntaxiques, traducteurs automatiques, outils de recherche d’information, outils d’aide à la rédaction de textes ou sms, correcteurs orthographiques, etc.). Résumé : INTRODUCTION: Hypovitaminosis D has been associated with several chronic conditions; yet, its association with cognitive decline and the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been inconsistent. METHODS: The study population consisted of 916 participants from the Three-City Bordeaux cohort aged 65+, nondemented at baseline, with assessment of vitamin D status and who were followed for up to 12 years. RESULTS: In multivariate analysis, compared with individuals with 25(OH)D sufficiency (n = 151), participants with 25(OH)D deficiency (n = 218) exhibited a faster cognitive decline. A total of 177 dementia cases (124 AD) occurred: 25(OH)D deficiency was associated with a nearly three-fold increased risk of AD (hazard ratio = 2.85, 95% confidence interval 1.37-5.97). DISCUSSION: This large prospective study of French older adults suggests that maintaining adequate vitamin D status in older age could contribute to slow down cognitive decline and to delay or prevent the onset of dementia, especially of AD etiology.

Résumé : This paper presents a study of a size effect in TiAl alloys. Spark Plasma Sintering is used to sinter several alloys with a near-γ microstructure. Both the effect of boron as an inhibitor of grain growth and the rapidity of this powder metallurgy process are used to control the grain size. Following a comparison between EBSD-SEM (Electron Backscatter Diffraction by Scanning Electron Microscopy) and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), the grain size is measured by TEM. Tensile tests are performed at room temperature to measure the yield stress. The deformation microstructure is studied by TEM. In a delimited area, activated deformation systems are identified in every grain. Then, for every system, the Schmid's factors as well as the defect nucleation sites are determined. A size effect leading to a high Hall-Petch constant of k = 0.98 MPa m 1/2 is measured. The deformation is found to be due to ordinary dislocations and twinning, which are mainly satisfying Schmid's law. Ordinary dislocations are more frequently observed than twins. Twins are found to form pileups and to cross the boundaries under the effect of stress concentration. These results are discussed and interpreted on the basis of the pileup model applied to the Shockley dislocations involved in twinning.

Résumé : Since 2012, clinical trials dedicated to proprotein convertase subtilisin kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibition with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have unambiguously demonstrated robust reductions not only in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (LDL-C) but also in lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] levels. The scientific literature published prior to those studies did not provide any evidence for a link between PCSK9 and Lp(a) metabolism. More recent investigations, either in vitro or in vivo, have attempted to unravel the mechanism(s) by which PCSK9 mAbs reduce circulating Lp(a) levels, with some showing a specific implication of the LDL receptor (LDLR) in Lp(a) clearance whereas others found no significant role for the LDLR in that process. This elusive pathway appears clearly distinct from that of the widely prescribed statins that also enhance LDLR function but do not lower circulating Lp (a) levels in humans. So how does PCSK9 inhibition with mAbs reduce Lp(a)? This still remains to be established.
